A controversial round in the Russian Premier League this week as Zenit St. Petersburg face losing points after drawing 1-1 with Lokomotiv Moscow. Following the game it was revealed that Zenit had fielded a total of seven foreign players at once – one more than allowed under league rules.

At the news conference after the game, Zenit coach Dick Advocaat admitted it had been his fault.A decision on the incident will be taken next week.Rubin went to the top of the league while Spartak Moscow won 2-0, a result that would have had recently sacked coach Michael Laudrup looking on in astonishment.

Here is all the rest of the weekend's action

Spartak Moscow 2-0 Terek Grozny

The news off the field of the sacking of Danish legend Michel Laudrup was the major talking point before this game was played.

As always happens once a coach gets sacked the players were out to impress the new one. So caretaker coach Valery Karpin would have been happy to see 25-year-old Russian international midfielder Vladimir Bystrov and Brazilian Wellington score in the 72nd and 82nd minutes respectively.

The team from Chechnya only had a red card for Mikhail Mischenko in 57th minute to speak of at the Luzhniki Stadium. Michael Laudrup was probably asking why they didn’t play like that for the last month; 15,000 Spartak Moscow fans were probably wondering the same thing.

Lokomotiv Moscow 1-1 Zenit St Petersburg

A controversial game ended in a 1-1 draw but that will not be the end of it.

Zenit scored through South Korean international left-back Dong-jin Kim who found himself on the end of a great cross from the right hand side from Viktor Faitzulin.

The 27 year-old, who has started in three consecutive games for Zenit, flew in the air, hanging to head the ball forcefully into the net - a sight which sent the Zenit fans that were situated right behind the goal into ecstasy.

In the 70th minute Lokomotiv Moscow equalised. A corner was swung in from the left, it was flicked into the path of Brazilian defender Bentas Rodolfo whose header flew into top left hand side of the goal. After three minutes of injury time the referee blew the full time whistle.

The railway boys would have been content with the draw, aware that Zenit had created more chances and had an extra man, as the referee had no option but to send off Montenegro international defender Marko Basa.

Lokomotiv held on for the last 13 minutes, but could receive all three points as following the game it was revealed that Zenit had fielded a total of seven foreign players at once – one more than allowed under league rules.
